Grief is one of the most profound human experiences. It is incapacitating, but there is a beauty to be found in the privilege it is to have loved someone so dearly for their loss to have such an impact. This solo is a celebration of the hardships of grief. How to return to an unchanged life and environment when you have experienced one of the most profound changes a human can experience? How can we find acceptance when death is the one thing we can never truly experience more than once?

Time Waits for No Man

My bachelor’s dissertation performance explored emotion and experience as the primary creative tools for devising a cross-discipline performance. With myself as the choreographer and actress Mabel McKeown as director, we headed an ensemble of eight performers with varied dance and acting abilities. Influenced by the work of Pina Bausch, Gecko Theatre Company and Hofesh Shechter we used a series of creative tasks and improvisations that induced a state of raw emotional experience for our initial findings. The result was a narrative that allowed the performers to transcend the bounds of performance and find a place of genuine emotional experience while putting the content in context for an audience to create an engaging performance.

The Birds, The Fish and the Creep

Influenced by Surrealism, this dance theatre performance brought the characters of Paul Klee's artwork to life through a series of unnerving, illogical scenes. The use of surprise juxtaposition and stream of consciousness was a heavy influence in both the early creative development and final composition of the performance.
